Id like to take the opportunity to say thank you to those in my kin, and outside of the kin who have offered love and support since my mother became ill.
My mother suffered with ALS for 2.5 years. ALS is also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Motor Neuron Disease, or Lou Gehrig's disease. This is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. In ALS, nerve cells (neurons) waste away or die, and can no longer send messages to muscles. This eventually leads to muscle weakening, twitching, and an inability to move the arms, legs, and body. The condition slowly gets worse. When the muscles in the chest area stop working, it becomes hard or impossible to breathe on one's own.
On May 28th 2011, my brave wonderful mother lost her battle with this horrible illness.
On July 3, 2011 my family and I participated in the "sleepwalk for a cure" in Birmingham UK to help raise money to find a cure for this disease and many of you in the kin and out donated in sponsorship to help us reach and surpass our donations goal. I am very proud of the work we did and of every single person who was willing to give of themselves to help us in this very important mission.
My mother loved to write, and she wrote for many years. After her passing, my father and I took all of my mothers wonderful writings, her stories, poems, blogs and even some of her favorite recipes and we compiled them into a book which we have published for sale through LuLu.com with proceeds being donated to help fight this terrible disease that took her from us all too soon. The book is called "OldCarMama - Grandmas Don't Just Bake Cookies, and it can be purchased here http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/ldyrvnhrt and is available in hardcover print or digital download for those who are interested.
Thank you so much to each and every one of you for taking the time to read my message and for any help you offered whether it was financial, or emotional. It is appreciated more than you will ever know.
I love you all

is a mature end game kinship on the Gilrain server.
Founded November 25, 2007 The Damned was started out of a desire for end game content and its spoils. Unable to find what it was we sought in the kinships we belonged to at the time, a decision was made amongst friends to form a kinship for ourselves and for so many who felt as we did. A large risk was taken, as so many kinships start and fail the same way but we welcomed the challenge.
Together, the founding members of The Damned sought out other like minded players and brought them into the ranks. We worked hard and learned together, finely tuning tactics and strategies, working together to achieve a common goal. More rapidly than we had ever hoped for, our dream became reality. 4 years later, it continues. Not only have we become knowledgeable players but we have made bonds of friendship, bonds of family. We have had our tough times, our problems our fights. We are not perfect, but a finer kinship I could not wish for, filled with players who care not only for the kin as a whole but for one another as people.
The Damned is comprised of people over age 18, but we have been known to make exceptions for people slightly (and I do mean slightly) under age 18 under extreme circumstances. We do this on a case by case basis and reserve the right to accept or refuse any application we see fit. We would however prefer our applicants be over 18 and be subscribed players. F2P players are indeed welcome but we would like to know they will be getting the content at the end game as that is where our focus is. We do not suffer fools lightly and we do not tolerate blatant greed, disrespect or underhanded behaviour. We expect members of The Damned to do themselves and the kin proud by acting respectfully to those inside and outside of the kinship.
We have recently opened our recruitment to players level 20 and upward. We are hopeful that players at that level who join us will have an enthusiasm to reach the end game content and become assets not only to our social circle but to our raiding team as well. We are not your basic hold your hand and drag you through it all while you sit back and have a cool drink sort of kinship. Thats not to say we wont help you. Of course we will help you, BUT our main focus is on the end game content, and that is where we would like our members' focus to be as well. The Damned love to have a good time, but we are very serious about our raiding and what we expect from our members in raids and instances.
Aside from raiding we grind traits and deeds together, we do instances together, we occasionally visit the moors as a kin or skirmish in large groups and while we are indeed an end game kinship we have casual events like scavenger hunts occasionally to ensure that our kin members not only get their end game spoils but a hearty laugh as well. We welcome all new challenges and rise to meet them. We welcome new members and expect that they will rise to the challenges with us. We pride ourselves on our teamwork abilities and our constant quest for "the next thing". Some people have called us "Elitist" and "Demanding". We arent. We are "Focused and Goal Oriented".
Some of our past raid accomplishments include server firsts on Watcher 2.0, Watcher 3.0 and the Turtle raid as well as Server second on clearing Dar Narbugud. Although these accomplishments are important to us, it is more important that we enjoyed the raids and we did them as a family. We also had great successes and very much enjoyed Barad Guldur and Ost Dunhoth and are currently enjoying all of the content in the Isengard expansion and spend alot of time doing the 3 and 6 man instances there and in the 12 man raid in the Tower of Orthanc.
There are all sorts of stories and rumours across Gilrain about The Damned, about me, about who and what we are all about. All I can say is that if you don't know me personally ... well... you get what you pay for. If you want to find out about me, or the kin... speak to me directly. I wont bite.... hard.
The dedication and determination of this kinship's members and its officers is commendable to say the least.
4 years and we are still here and still going strong... that says it all.
We hope you enjoy your stay in our home on the web.
The Tower of Orthanc. One of the most challenging raids we have encountered in a very long time. We entered the raid just a short time after its release and began work on strategies for the various elemental bosses.... Lightning, fire, frost, acid and shadow. We found each to offer a different set of challenges requiring us to use all of our skills, knowledge and teamwork abilities.
We took great pride in clearing those bosses regularly so that we might obtain newer gear and then face Orthanc's greatest challenge, Saruman.
Now some people may say "oh but it is only a T1 fight". The word only should not be used in description of this battle. Despite it being a T1 fight I feel it is by far the most difficult T1 boss fight to be released thusfar in the game. We spent many nights working on him getting to phase 5 of the fight and then wiping only to leave disgruntled and discouraged.
This week we set our sights and our determination levels higher and made a plan. Friday night we clear the place from bosses 1-4 and Saturday he dies. We would emerge victorious this time. There was no failing to be had.
Well Friday night's raid went like clockwork. The 4 bosses of Orthanc dropped like flies at our feet one after the other in what i can only call a flawless raid. We left ourselves high with victory and set the calendar for Saturday Night.
On the 28th of January 2012 we entered Orthanc's highest point ready for anything Saruman would throw at us. We had a few attempts during which we experienced things I can only call bad luck but we did not get discouraged and we went straight back after him again. On our 4th attempt, something was different. Everything went smoothly. There was no bad luck, no accidental deaths, no missed fellowship maneuvers, no laziness, no person in the raid distracted .... we cut through phases 1-4 like a hot knife through butter and then... Phase 5 was upon us again.
I can only say every single person on that raid was amazing. The leadership was pristine, the playing matched it. The levels of skill shown by our kinnies would make any kinleader proud... and as you would expect.... Saruman of Many Colors, fell at the feet of The Damned that night.
This victory belongs to the entire kin. Every single person who had been in on that fight since our very first attempts. Those who waited while we took other bosses first, those who researched and worked with the raid leaders to learn strategies, those who helped us make advancements, and those who helped us figure out where we were going wrong. To every one of you the kin owes a debt of gratitude. It is this sort of teamwork that leads to victories such as this.
I would also like to offer a special thanks to the people who have led these raids and who have guided us, encouraged us, and scolded us... and who have made it possible for us to celebrate today.
Im so proud of you all for never giving up and for being a part of this kill, and of this kin.
I love you all. -
Brooklyn
